Why it hurts
Tight Muscles Can Affect More Than You Think
Sitting at a desk all day, training hard, slouching without realizing it, stress you're carrying in your shoulders without even noticing — it adds up. Once that kind of tension sets in, it tends to stick around — you'll feel it trying to fall asleep, getting up from a chair, that sort of thing.
This is where deep tissue massage might help — firmer pressure, aimed right at whatever spot actually feels stuck, rather than a broad, general once-over. Your RMT will check in with you along the way, adjusting how hard they're working based on what you can handle and where you actually need it.
People come to us when:
- Their neck and shoulders feel tight after work.
- Their lower back feels stiff or sore.
- Stretching is not giving them enough relief.
- Their muscles stay sore after a workout.
- Sitting or standing all day leaves them feeling tense.
- They want focused muscle work rather than a lighter massage.

How we work
How Does Deep Tissue Massage Work?
We focus on tight, sore, or overworked areas. Your RMT adjusts the pressure to your comfort and works with your body, not against it.
Focused pressure
We use firm, steady pressure on areas where muscle tension has built up. The pressure can be changed during your session based on how your body responds.
Trigger point work
Some tight spots can feel more tender than others. Your RMT may spend extra time on these areas to help loosen muscle tension.
Deeper muscle work
Deep tissue massage works beyond the surface muscles. It can help address tight areas around the fascia and connective tissue.
Posture-related tension
Sit, stand, or hunch over a desk long enough and some muscles end up doing way more work than others — that's usually where we spend extra time.
Recovery support
Whether your muscles feel worn out after exercise or you are dealing with ongoing soreness, your RMT can adjust the session around your needs and recovery goals.
Works alongside chiropractic care
These two treatments tend to complement each other well — massage works the muscles and soft tissue, chiropractic care handles the joints and spine, andtogether they may address more than either treatment on its own.

Care from a Massage Therapist
Every session is shaped around what your body exactly needs, not a fixed routine

Allison Follett Campbell
(RMT) R256
Some people need deep, focused pressure on one tight spot. Others just need to slow down and let their whole system unwind. Allison starts every session by talking through what's actually going on, where it hurts, & what's been stressful lately. Then she gets to work, mixing in fascial techniques, joint mobilization, muscle release, and Swedish massage depending on what your body's asking for that day.

Deeper pressure, matched to what your muscles need
Deep tissue massage zeroes in on muscles and areas that have been under strain for a while — it's firmer than what you'd get in a lighter session. Your RMT keeps checking in as they go, so the pressure stays somewhere you can actually handle, not somewhere you're just gritting through.
You might feel some tenderness during the session, especially in the tighter spots — that's fairly normal. A little soreness the next day isn't unusual, either. Rest, some water, moving around like you normally would — it usually clears up on its own.
Before starting, we'll ask about any injuries, health concerns, or areas that feel especially sensitive. That's not just a formality — it actually shapes which techniques your RMT uses, and sometimes it points toward a different type of massage being the better call for you that day.
It’s not about using the strongest pressure possible. It’s about working on the right areas, keeping you comfortable, and adjusting the massage to what your body needs.

Safety first
When Should You Avoid Deep Tissue Massage Therapy?
Although deep tissue massage therapy can be immensely helpful, it’s not right for everyone. You must inform your therapist if you’ve had a recent injury or surgery, have a history of blood clots, or have a specific skin condition. Depending on your unique condition, we might suggest to you a gentler type of massage, or ask to check with your doctor first.
Questions we hear each day
Deep Tissue Massage Therapy Queries
Does deep tissue massage hurt?
It can feel pretty firm, honestly — more so if there's a spot that's already tight. But it shouldn't tip into actual pain.
What's it actually good for?
Tight muscles, soreness that won't quit, postural strain from sitting or standing wrong all day, areas that just feel overworked. Tell your RMT what's bothering you most and they'll spend more time there.
How's this different from a relaxation massage?
Typically it involves firmer pressure and it focuses the pressure and time on a specific tight or sore spot. A relaxation massage is usually lighter, with slow, gentle strokes. Not sure which one is right for you? We can help you choose. Your RMT can help you figure it out based on what's going on with your body.
Will it help with pain I've had for a while?
It may help. For muscle tension and discomfort that's stuck around, your RMT will usually ask a few questions about your symptoms and what you're hoping to get out of the session before deciding how to approach it.
Does insurance cover it?
Depends on your plan. If your extended health coverage includes registered massage therapy, you can usually submit the receipt for reimbursement, and some plans allow direct billing. It’s worth checking your policy directly since coverage varies a lot.
Note: It's a good idea to check with your insurance beforehand to see if a referral from a Medical Doctor is required for massage coverage, since some plans won't reimburse if the referral is dated after your appointment, and note that the clinic doesn't submit referrals on your behalf, you'll need to send it to your insurer yourself.
