WHY DOES IT HURT

Why Does Pain Become Chronic?

Injuries are messy. There's no schedule for it. Fluid pools around the joint, blood flow drops off, and nerves just keep firing pain signals long after things have actually healed. Then arthritis throws a wrench in things. The joint stiffens, moving it hurts so you avoid it, and avoiding it just makes the stiffness worse. And that's really the whole problem; a pulled muscle or a small injury, left alone too long, turns into pain you're still dealing with next year.

How Does Theralase Laser Treatment Help?

  • May help provide pain relief, as the cellular energy boost from the laser is linked to reduced pain signaling in the area.
  • May support tissue repair in muscles, tendons and ligaments, r, because the treatment kicks ATP production into gear at the cellular level.
  • May help reduce inflammation and swelling, as the added cellular energy from the laser is linked to a reduction in inflammation at the treated site.
  • May support deeper tissue repair. Theralase's laser is engineered to penetrate deep into tissue, reaching the cells that need it most.

CONDITIONS WE TREAT

What Conditions Does Theralase Laser Treatment Focus on?

Pain does not present itself in the same manner every time. At times, pain will occur in joints that have worn out over many years. Other times it's an injury from last week that just won't let up. Either way, Theralase® patented cool laser therapy is applied directly to the affected tissue. Here's where patients see the most benefit.
Theralase® is cleared by Health Canada and the FDA for chronic knee pain. Its use for the conditions below is supported by clinical research and applied at your practitioner's discretion as part of an individualized treatment plan.

laser therapy for joint pain

Safety first

Is Cold Laser Therapy Safe?

Short answer: yes, for most people. It's non-invasive, so there's nothing to cut, no needles involved, and no real recovery time to speak of. Most patients feel little to nothing during treatment. On smaller areas like wrists and ankles, you may notice mild warmth, tingling, or a pulsed sensation. No burning, no pain, and no downtime afterward. That said, it's not automatically right for every single person who walks through the door. We go over your health history first and adjust from there. And if we run into something that's outside what the laser can actually help with, we'll get you to the right specialist instead of just plowing ahead anyway.

Who Should Come In
Honestly, quite a few people. Arthritis, joint pain, sports injuries, and wounds that aren't healing as expected may all be worth discussing with your practitioner. It's also worth asking about if you've tried physical therapy or chiropractic care and haven't gotten the results you were hoping for.

Note: Health Haven uses the Theralase® super-pulsed laser system as one of the therapeutic modalities that may be incorporated into an individualized treatment plan.

QUESTIONS WE HEAR EVERYDAY

Questions About Cold Laser Therapy

Does Theralase® patented cool laser therapy hurt?

Not really. Some patients feel a bit of warmth or tingling where the laser is applied, but that's usually it. It's a generally painless, non-invasive procedure overall.

How many sessions of Theralase® patented cool laser therapy will I need?

There's no set number, it comes down to what you're being treated for and how you respond. A few sessions might do it for some people. Others need more time. Dr. Jordanna Clarfield-Henry, DC, will work out a plan that fits your situation.

Is Theralase® patented cool laser therapy safe?

Generally, yes. It's non-invasive and drug-free, and side effects are uncommon. The one precaution is that the laser is never aimed directly into the eyes. Your practitioner will also go over your health history with you first to make sure it's a good fit.

What should I expect during a Theralase® patented cool laser therapy session?

Dr. Jordanna Clarfield-Henry, DC, positions the laser device over the area being treated and applies light for a set amount of time. Patients usually do not experience anything during the treatment session. At times you might feel mild warmth or a mild, pulsed energy wave on smaller areas like wrists and ankles. No downtime needed afterward.

Is laser safe during pregnancy?

Generally, yes. The one thing we're careful about is keeping the laser away from the belly, and anywhere else it could reach the womb or baby.

Can my child get laser therapy for their injury?

They can. Before starting, your practitioner puts together a quick profile, things like your child's age, height, weight, and waist and hip measurements. That way the treatment actually fits their size, not a generic setup.
